Basic Information
Katie is the daughter of David Cassidy (70’s pop idol) and Sherry Benedon (former model) and comes from a on-again, off-again relationship between the two. Sherry and David remained close friends after Katie’s birth. She was raised by her mother and stepfather, Richard Benedon who is a ER physician. She has two older sisters, Jenna and Jamie and has a younger brother named Beau Cassidy.
As a kid, Katie took up tumbling and eventually became a cheerleader on the competitive team known as the Californian Flyers. She completed high school in 2005 at Calabasas High School where she was a cheerleader freshman year.
Career
While she was very young in elementary school, she became interested in show business and participated in community theatre, which lead to her studying with an acting coach. She also did some modeling for Abercrombie and Fitch in 2004. Her mother wouldn’t let her act professionally until completing high shool, believing that was more important (go mom! because she is completely right). After high school, Katie moved to L.A and appeared in several television shows including Zoe, a recurring role on 7th Heaven. She was alos in the drama Sex, Love & Secrets as well as a small role in Eminem’s music video ‘Just Lose It’ in 2004.
Katie also enjoys singing, releasing a single ‘I Think I Love You’. However in 2006, she had small roles in the remake of When a Stranger Calls and Click. Later that year she starred in Black Christmas, another remake.
She was filming scenes for the remake of Revenge of the Nerds, but production was halted and then eventually it was cancelled. She appeared in Taken (2008) and is scheduled to appear in the movie remake of the television series Dallas as Lucy Ewing. She also starred as a recurring character in Supernatural as Ruby, a demon who was sent to cause trouble for the boys. She also starred in Harper’s Island as Trish Wellington, a bride to be who’s wedding plans go completely wrong.
Currently, Katie plays Ella Simms on the new Melrose Place. Ella is a hard case publicist who doesn’t take no for an answer. Recently as well, she’s been cast as Kris in the 2010 upcoming film, A Nightmare on Elm Street.
Personal Life
In August of 2007, Katie was arrested for underage drinking in Tucson. At the time her blood alcohol level was .16, twice the legal limit in Arizona. When questioned, she claimed to be Taylor Cole, a actress fan from Canada and who also had a guest spot in Supernatural.
Currently, Katie has four tattoos. One on her hip, foot, ankle and the middle of her back. Her first tattoo was on her hip and is the year ‘1922′, the year of her maternal grandmother’s birth. The second was the tattoo on her foot of three stars depicting Katie and her two sisters who also have the same tattoo. Each woman however has them in different places. On her ankle is a word wrap that reads ‘Love Thyself, Know Thyself, Be Thyself’ and the one in the middle of her back is the Latin phrase Alis Volat Propiius, which means ‘She Flies With Her Own Wings’. She chose those words because she said it’s a very true statement about her independance and that despite the ties to her family, she’s making it on her own talent and no one else’s.
Her hobbies? Include Reading, yoga, taking acting classes and seeing movies with her close friends.
